Reporting to

  • Manufacturing Manager

Position Purpose                                                           

To manage all activities associated with the operations of the Production department.

Key Accountabilities

To deliver performance targets in the areas of safety, quality, customer service, product development, cost control and people


  • Review daily performance (e.g. labour material and labour efficiency, schedule attainment etc) measures with supervisors, team members and other departments to ensure issues are identified, corrective actions are in place and executed
  • Ensure all employees are working in compliance with relevant safety legislation and ARYZTA policies
  • Ensure a positive and constructive work environment through effective communication and the quick resolution of issues
  • Work in conjunction with the Plant Manager to ensure the production area is getting maximum service from all service departments (i.e. maintenance and sanitation)
  • Continuously suggest and implement process improvements with the rest of the operations group
  • Work on new projects focused in department
  • Prepare monthly action plans to address performance gaps
  • Ensure all Food Safety programs are strictly adhered to
  • Take an active role in the improvement of ARYZTA safety programs
  • Work with Product Development to ensure successful implementation of any new line or product start ups
  • Member of Recall Working team - see Recall Procedure for responsibilities
  • Member of Complaint Reduction Committee - review Complaint trends and determines corrective actions; opportunities for improvement are also identified
  • Member of Food Safety Committee - ensure that compliance to the policies and procedures of the facility and Regulatory and Customer requirements are being met
  • Member of Zone Audits - see Internal Food Safety procedure for responsibilities
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned
  • Adhere to all applicable job procedures as outlined in SOP manual
  • Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
    • Keep work area clean and clear of hazards
    • Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries to supervisor immediately
    • Use all prescribed personal protective equipment
  • Ensure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followed
    • Monitor and enforce GMP compliance by all operators
    • Ensure all work areas are clean and organized and free of spills, water, wood, and debris
    • Complete incident reports for all FM/GMP incidents
    • Follow up with Health, Safety & Security Manager any reports of unusual people or behaviours
  • Primarily in contact with:
    • Plant Manager  - daily basis to report on all Manufacturing issues activities
    • Production Supervisors - daily basis to report daily activities and plan of future activities
    • Maintenance Supervisor - daily to ensure maximum service and to coordinate potential repairs
    • Sanitation Supervisor - daily to ensure proper cleaning activities occurring
    • Purchasing Supervisor - as needed to ensure inventories on hand as needed
    • Plant Employees - as needed to deal with any issues
    • Sales Area - ensure proper ordering and forecasting
    • Distribution Manager - as needed to ensure finished product ready on time
    • Production Scheduler - to ensure no product shortage to customers
  • Perform other duties as required

  • Technical competence in process control and baking skills

  • Community college education preferred or experience in a high volume bakery operation as a supervisor or manager
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to direct people

  • Setting up the environment to keep employees motivated
  • Ensuring production requirements are met
  • Getting maximum productivity out of some older equipment
  • Scheduling the facility
  • Coordinating line services against growing capacity constraints

  • ARYZTA Limited is a 24 hour/ 7 day manufacturing operation
  • The temperature of the environment within the production area can range from 58 - 80

degrees farenheit depending on the department 

  • Frozen Warehouse may have temperatures reaching 10.4 farenheit
  • The production areas are often loud, exceeding 85 decibels, due to the machinery that is

running; earplugs are required to be worn while in the bakery at all times

  • Depending on postion, some employees may be exposed to dust; dust masks and respirators are available if required
  • Occasional evening and weekend work
