Position Purpose

This position is responsible for coordination and supervision of the Quality Assurance Lab and Quality Assurance Technicians.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Direct report responsibility including QA/food safety training for direct reports, completion of their QA direct reports performance assessments, coaching, disciplinary action
  • Weekly planning of QA staffing requirements according to production and sanitation demands (floor presence for all shifts)

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate facility and food safety information databases
  • Provides support to manufacturing teams to strengthen the awareness of GMP’s on the manufacturing floor environment
  • Provide support, guidance and coaching to direct reports
  • Follow up to all tasks assigned to direct reports and holding them accountable for completion.
  • Participate in scheduled Glass and Plastic Audit and maintain log
  • Maintain incident report log, investigation, co-ordination of corrective action and completion.
  • Participate in scheduled GMP audit. Conduct all zone/GMP audits.  Prepare and update zone audit reports.  Set corrective actions and assign appropriate time lines.  Verify corrective actions are completed on time and as stated.
  • Contribute as a key member of the Quality Assurance team
  • Ensure Microbiological Testing Protocols and all other lab analysis are being completed in a timely manner both in house and with third party lab
  • Track and trend KPI’s against objectives
  • Undertake any special assignment or project as directed by the QA Manager in a timely and professional manner
  • To identify all deviations relating to quality, product safety, sanitation, GMPS, Third Party , Regulatory Agencies, and customer standards.  Determine and carry out corrective actions in a timely manner.  Verify completion
  • Ensure completion and accuracy of all documentation
  • To assist whenever possible in corrective actions and preventative measures
  • To exercise sound judgment, good interpersonal skills and integrity
  • To provide timely communication on all critical issues
  • Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
    • Keep work area clean and clear of hazards
    • Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries to supervisor immediately
    • Use all prescribed personal protective equipment
  • Ensure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followed
    • Follow all GMPs including maintaining personal hygiene, hand washing/sanitizing hands, clean up spills
    • Report any foreign material findings
    • As part of food security, report any unusual people or behavior

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, & Word)
  • Must be detail-oriented, analytical and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Computer skills
  • Enthusiastic and capable of working in a fast-paced changing environment
  • Able to climb ladders, stairs, and work on heights
  • Ability to analyze problems and provide workable solutions

 

Education, Technical Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Proficiency Level

 

Required

  • Post Secondary Education in Food Science or related field

 

Preferred

  • Work experience in the food industry - bakery experience is an asset

  • ARYZTA Limited is a 24 hour/ 7 day manufacturing operation
  • The temperature of the environment within the production area can range from 58 - 80 degrees fahrenheit depending on the department 
  • The production areas are often loud, exceeding 85 decibels, due to the machinery that is running; earplugs are required to be worn while in the bakery at all times
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and extreme cold.
