Position Purpose

This position is responsible for ensuring the efficient and profitable operation of the retail store outlet.

Key Accountabilities

To maintain an excellent level of front-line customer service, accuracy, and detail for all transactions and inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Balance previous days sales to cash ensuring $300.00 float to start the day, and report any discrepancies to the Bakery Coordinator
  • Give day’s sales cash to Accounts Payable Clerk prior to store opening each day; Friday & Saturday cash receipts are handed in on Monday mornings prior to store opening
  • Complete store operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; follow up on work results. Schedules must be completed one month in advance - ensure coverage during holidays and employee absences
  •  Manage stock levels and make key decisions about stock control - keep spoils to a minimum to maintain budget requirements
  • Initiate changes to improve the business
  • Manage and motivate team to increase sales and ensure efficiency
  • Place bread orders once per week, keep control of inventory to prevent excessive stock in the freezer
  • Place orders for milk as required
  • Manage Gourmet Baker product and place orders as required. 
  • Maximize profits by minimizing costs, balance product purchases.
  • Ensure that all paid food is accompanied by a receipt. All foods leaving the store unpaid are to be accompanied by a donation request form or a no change order sheet - the no charge order sheets – the no charge order sheets are to include a value given to the Bakery Coordinator at the end of each week
  • Ensure that proper employee discounts are being monitored and given correctly (20% discount for Oakrun and Gourment Baker #1’s or firsts, this does not apply to outside vendors such as milk, Lanthier bread, etc.)
  • Ensure that foods for large orders not go out on Oakrun or Lanthier bread trays.  Food is to be re-packed into corrugate cases - you may get approval for trays from the Bakery Coordinator; however it is the responsibility of the Retail Store Supervisor to follow up and ensure that trays are returned.
  • Ensure that there is only $50.00 in the cash till at any given time for safety and security - cash in excess of $50.00 is to be taken to the office and placed in the safe
  • Ensure that the store is never left unattended and one person is present at all times
  • Each Monday, provide the Bakery Coordinator with the daily till readings from the prior week
  • Adhere to all applicable job procedures as outlined in SOP manual
  • Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
    • Keep work area clean and clear of hazards
    • Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries to supervisor immediately
    • Use all prescribed personal protective equipment
  • Ensure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followed
    • Visually inspect the board loader area to ensure food safety
    • All tools to be cleaned and maintained in good repair. Report any broken, damaged, or missing tools to your supervisor. Do not discard any damaged or broken tools.
    • Follow all GMPs including maintaining personal hygiene, handwashing/sanitizing hands, clean up spills (ie: ingredients, water, debris and wood)
    • Report any foreign material findings to your supervisor
    • As part of food security, report any unusual people or behaviours to your supervisor
  • Perform all other duties assigned

Education, Technical Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Proficiency Level

 

Preferred

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • The majority of work in the retail store outlet requires employees to stand on their feet for the entire  8-12 hour shift
  • Physical demands may also include reaching, bending, walking, lifting (up to a maxiumum of  50lbs) and performing repetitive actions

  • The temperature of the environment within the retail store outlet ranges from 68-74 degrees farenheight
  • The production areas are often loud, exceeding 85 decibels, due to the machinery that is running; earplugs are required to be worn while in the bakery at all times
  • Depending on postion, some employees may be exposed to dust; dust masks and respirators are available if required
