Position Purpose
Overall responsibility for delivering new product projects – right from conception through to launch.
Key Accountabilities
Is an integral part of the continuous improvement initiatives on the bakery floor relating to improving efficiency, reducing waste, and aiding engineering in process improvements.
Responsibilities
 Works closely with sales to understand customer requirements, if necessary communicate with customer directly to understand specific product needs
 Develops formulations and manages generation of lab or plant samples
 Sources and approves new ingredients, while working with purchasing
 Works with Engineering on process approval
 Manages the generation of appropriate nutritional and label information
 Manages the approval process with sales and customer for lab and plant trial samples, until product is launched. (i.e., first production)
 Responsible for final product formulation, and costing of approved product in association with Sales, Purchasing and Accounting
 Create data for product make up sheets, scaling sheets and finished product specifications. (in association with QA)
 Manage shelf life testing and sensory evaluation tests, update procedures and methodology, and train team members on appropriate testing methods
 Cost saving projects – Identify opportunities for cost savings and initiate projects to implement
 Research cost saving ideas identified by other team members from all departments
 Develop systems to document project work
 Manage budget for department
 Provide technical expertise to internal and external customers as needed
 Stay current on new trends, products and technologies, understand their impact on business and make recommendations
 Manages the R&D Grant programme
 Plans product development work, negotiates completion dates with sales
 Manages the lab trials and plant trial process with PD team
 Assigns work to team as required by the business on a daily basis
