Position Purpose

To manage and lead people in a continuous process manufacturing environment.  Responsible for all aspects of departmental performance including safety, quality, reliability, efficiency, customer service, cost, employee performance, and training and development.

 

Key Accountabilities

Ensuring that the production schedule is met both financially and operationally.  Acts as back up to Bakery Director when required.

 

Responsibilities

  • Leading the Production Manager and Technical Manager, coordinate all production related activities of the bakery
  • Budget control, profit and loss of the manufacturing department
  • Ensuring that the production schedule is met both financially and operationally
  • Reviewing current practices to reduce actual spends
  • Review and measure department performance vs. agreed standard on a weekly / monthly / quarterly basis
  • Conduct staff performance reviews
  • In conjunction with Management team, develop policies and practices for unit operation
  • Ensure systems are in place to monitor all targets and lead development of processes to improve results including continuous improvement
  • Work with technical advisors and maintenance leadership to evaluate impact of new products on operation and help develop plans to address conflicts
  • Work proactively with support teams (maintenance, engineering, sanitation, QA, supply chain, HR, R&D, etc) to support departmental objectives and ensure the smooth running of the operation
  • Provide excellent leadership by example from the floor to your team, acting with honesty and integrity, ensuring that the cultural values of ARYZTA Canada are being promoted at all times.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships within the team, ensuring that hard work and success are recognized and rewarded in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Promote a customer-first attitude through coaching and setting a great example while remaining calm under pressure.
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of their responsibilities specific to food safety, legality and quality
  • Maintain the required hygiene, safety and quality standards on the production floor
  • Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
    • Keep work area clean and clear of hazards
    • Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries immediately
    • Use all prescribed personal protective equipment
  • Ensure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followed
    • Monitor and enforce GMP compliance by all operators
    • Ensure all work areas are clean and organized and free of spills, water, wood, and debris
    • Follow up with Health, Safety & Security Manager any reports of unusual people or behaviours
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of progressive management experience in managing and leading people in a continuous process manufacturing environment
  • Background in bakery / yeast / frozen food manufacturing would be an advantage
  • Proven record in achieving budgets and adhering to financial guidelines
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with experience in report writing
  • Ability to supervise / lead others in positive employee relations climate
  • Proven record in successful planning, decision-making and problem solving
  • Competence in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

 

Education, Technical Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Proficiency Level

Required

  • College Diploma / Post Secondary education in a related field

Preferred

  • 10+ years experience in managing operations and leading people in a continuous process manufacturing environment

  • ARYZTA is a 24 hour/ 7 day manufacturing operation
  • The temperature of the environment within the production area can range from 58 - 80 degrees farenheit depending on the department 
  • Frozen Warehouse may have temperatures reaching 10.4 farenheit
  • The production areas are often loud, exceeding 85 decibels, due to the machinery that is running; earplugs are required to be worn while in the bakery at all times
  • Depending on postion, some employees may be exposed to dust; dust masks and respirators are available if required
  • Must be available for occasional evening and weekend work, and on-call availability in support of local facility and initiatives
  • Travel approximately up to 20%
