Production Manager



To utilize resources, equipments, people in most effective manner based on production schedules.  Train new employees and /or fill in during an employee’s absence. Direct and motivate employees using interpersonal communication, good leadership and organization skills.



  • Co-operate and maintain communications with other departments and suggest solutions/improvements to the Production Manager.
  • Settle conflicts quickly and to the satisfaction of all parties involved. Implement and maintain company policies.
  • Ensure and enforce compliance with safe work practices and WCB regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with other supervisors to build teamwork and co-operation.
  • Liaise between management and employees and relate input to management.
  • Be a role model by being consistent in behaviour, communication and expectations.
  • Maintain work habits in accordance to G.M.P. (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Maintain quality and consistency of products in accordance with company standards.
  • Ensure all employees understand and adhere to established production standards and processing schedules.
  • Schedule employees based on the production requirements.
  • Check and follow the production schedule in day to day work and to adapt to any changes.
  • Control unnecessary overtime.
  • Control & maintain labour cost within standard.
  • Able to identify waste areas and recommend solutions.
  • Ensure all machineries and equipments are used properly and safely by staff.
  • Report to maintanance personnel and supervisor of any equipment malfunction.
  • Co-ordinate cross training, document training and evaluating records.
  • Train new employees and report on their progress to The Production Manager.
  • Inform purchasing agent if and when any ingredient or packaging is low.
  • Timely and accurate completion of all paperwork.
  • Ensure all employees maintain or improve their work performance.
  • Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
    • Keep work area clean and clear of hazards
    • Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries immediately
    • Use all prescribed personal protective equipment
  • Ensure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followed
    • Monitor and enforce GMP compliance by all operators
    • Ensure all work areas are clean and organized and free of spills, water, wood, and debris
    • Follow up with Health, Safety & Security Manager any reports of unusual people or behaviours
  • Perform other duties as required



  • Relevant Post Secondary education with good English oral and written communication skills.
  • Minimum 2 years experience supervising in a production environment.  Preference given to those with experience in a food production environment.
  • Understand union environments and the rules.
  • Leadership skills and behaviours that contribute to superior performance
  • Decision making skills
  • Have first Aid level 2 training an asset.
  • Good problem solving/trouble shooting and conflict management skills
  • Excellent computer knowledge and able to learn new programs quickly; SAP knowledge an asset
  • Knowledge of WHMIS / MSDS program.
  • Knowledge of WSBC regulations.
  • Must be able to understand scheduling process.
  • Must have a basic understanding of all production equipment, functions and capabilities.
  • Awareness of production specifications: i.e. weight, temperature, colour tone and consistency, code date system etc.
  • Interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
  • Willing to work shifts.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision and in a team environment.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
