Overall Purpose of the Role:
Reporting to the Head of NPD BIFG. The NPD Product Manager UK & IRL will play a key role in developing and launching new or upgraded product concepts, project managing these concepts through the development process to launch on time and to cost, whilst ensuring quality standards are upheld. In this varied role you will build strong effective relationships with key stakeholders. You will own the product relationship with both customers & suppliers, be ultimately responsible for ensuring the ISB bakery offer under the brand Cuisine de France is relevant and future proofed to provide an offer that resonates with the consumer. You will also have responsibility for a savoury food range. Product relevance is required for both Retail & Foodservice channels with multiple sub channels included. All categories must be on point and remaining relevant with changing consumer needs.
Main Duties & Responsibilities include:
New Product Development:
- Ensure the business is at the forefront of innovation and aware of the competitor landscape and emerging trends.
- Work with insights & category data to identify opportunities within the customer base and support category reviews.
- Ensure that all new products are developed and communicated to all stakeholders in line with product briefs.
- Ensuring knowledge of new product development across the group and there relevance for both UK & Irish retailers and Foodservice providers.
- Ensure that all supplier relationships are nurtured and growing to achieve a collective success.
- All products must be developed and in line with the brand and company strategies.
- Ensure that product benchmarking and new product panels are being carried out both internally & externally (with customers) across all our categories.
- Manage the NPD pipe line and list the product range in line with the process inclusive of SAP inputs, work with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth launch is achieved.
- Manage the existing product portfolio - monitoring sales and putting products through the delist process as required. Maintaining the Live list.
- Preparing setting up and presenting ranges/ concepts to customers both internal and external
- Maintaining all required documentation & records in line with BRC accredited standards.
- Sales & Marketing support to include creating video content, written content, product slides, customer product information guides, recipe ideas, build guides, food styling.
- Internal Department Training support - in person training to business developers, account managers, telesales.
Innovation & Market Awareness:
- Ensure a rolling NPD programme with aligned customers through projected NPD plans.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the food retail and foodservice markets, via trade press, food magazines & competitor shopping, to ensure development of cutting edge & market leading products.
Customer Skills
- Develop strong & lasting relationships with customers by continual communications by way of Joint development and NPD plans.
- Present new products & upgrades to the customer in a professional manner, demonstrating your food knowledge & expertise. Preparing samples, presentation packs & any theatre required.
Other:
- Coordinate and communicate the status of all NPD projects.
- Ensure a close working relationship with the Commercial, Finance ,Quality ,Marketing, Procurement teams.
- Attend internal & external taste panels when required.
- Attend and lead weekly NPD meetings.
- Attend supplier visits.
- Evaluate new & existing suppliers when required.
- Conduct store visits on a regular basis.
- To be aware of and comply with customer brand standards and FSA standards.
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in an NPD manager role dealing with retail & foodservice customers and suppliers.
- Demonstrate a passion & understanding of food and process supported by current food trends.
- Understanding of food value and positioning of range.
- Great project & time management skills.
- Skills & experience of customer contact including presentations.
- Drive & impetus to go out & seek new ideas and drive to launch.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills at all levels.
- Able to work both as an individual & a team player.
- Need to be creative and have a thirst for knowledge.
- Not frightened to challenge the “norm “to support continuous improvements.
- Ability to create a favourable first impression, project yourself well and present with confidence.
- Have an outgoing & confident approach.
- MS Office working knowledge (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) , SAP proficient.
