Key Accountabilities

Supervises the sanitation process needed to ensure food safety and a contamination free environment in accordance with Company, State and Federal sanitation standards.

 

Position

Responsibilities

 

  • Reports directly to the Bakery Director. Supervises all Sanitation personnel.
  • Develops and institutes effective sanitation procedures to ensure product quality, safety and legality.
  • Conducts at least one sanitation program review each period to reinforce established sanitation procedures.
  • Maintains and updates Sanitation Training/Procedure Manual on an annual or as needed basis.
  • Supports and trains other departments in sanitation methods and procedures.
  • Reviews sanitation problems, concerns or improvements with each department head on at least a weekly basis.
  • Facilitates open communication on all levels to ensure sanitation problems are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Provides and implements a Master Sanitation Schedule that ensures regular equipment and facility sanitation is performed.
  • Updates and reviews the Master Sanitation Schedule and reviews any changes with Plant Manager
  • Meets weekly with Chief Engineer and Production Superintendent to plan all equipment and facility sanitation in order to avoid inter-departmental scheduling conflicts.
  • Upon completion of equipment and facility sanitation, reviews the all cleaning check sheets to ensure all listed procedures have been completed in a safe, sanitary and efficient manner.
  • Provides and implements an effective pest control program which meets Company, State and Federal regulations.
  • Maintains a pest control log noting all pest control activities conducted and pesticides applied. Ensures all chemicals are applied in accordance with label instructions to ensure there are no risks to product safety.
  • Conducts Pest Control inspections in accordance with documented program and takes appropriate actions based on findings.
  • Maintains current license for pesticide application.
  • Supervises the break-down, clean-up and re-assembly of plant equipment and general facility clean-up in order to meet or exceed sanitation requirements. Ensures all safety devices and procedures are followed.
  • Effectively assists when required in the investigation and resolution of customer complaints by participating in information gathering, root cause analysis and corrective action identification and implementation.
  • Participates in weekly facility management meetings and internal audits when scheduled. Ensures corrective and preventative action plans are implemented and effective when assigned.
  • Maintains a painting schedule for all equipment and inside facility areas.
  • Responsible for the training and development necessary to maintain a knowledgeable, experienced and productive sanitation staff. May assist in the selection/hiring of sanitation employees.
  • Conducts formal annual performance evaluations for each sanitation department employee in addition to recommending developmental activities.
  • Supports and actively participates in all department head meetings, “Quality of Work Life” programs and safety functions of the bakery.
  • Supports and participates in special projects as assigned.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and two-way communication with co- workers and other personnel throughout the Company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Manages up to 15 employees in the Sanitation department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of related bakery or food Sanitation experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MATH ABILITY - Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to interpret graphs and diagrams.
  • REASONING ABILITY - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Years of Experience

  • (5) five years of related bakery or food sanitation experience

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as Production schedules, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or colleagues in organization.
