Position Purpose

Ensures products meet final expectations and oven areas are within GMP’s standards.

 

Key Accountabilities

Bakers are responsible for the final forming of the units to product specifications and slicing product tops to specification. Aligning product exiting the oven on to the cooling conveyor, monitoring the quality of the product on the Proofer plates and exiting the oven. Bakers are to maintain the sanitary conditions of the Proofer and oven areas to meet safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) standards.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assure the final forming of the product to specifications.
  • Slice tops to product specifications.
  • Coordinates activities of the employees in the oven department, including training, employees, planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Monitor the units on the Proofer plates to ensure they are meeting quality specifications.
  • Align product on Proofer plates for efficiency as they travel to the oven.
  • Align units exiting the oven onto the cooling conveyor for maximum cooling
  • Perform general sanitation cleanup of the Proofer workstation and oven areas.
  • Assure cutting blades are sharp for cutting product and are disposed of properly.
  • Assist Oven Operator to maintain process control of the Proof Box and Oven
  • Awareness of Lockout/Tagout procedures and adhere to GMP’s.
  • Assure that all data entry is entered accurately and on a timely manner
  • Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
  • Works to maintain and improve on the quality, legality and safety of each product and the processes used in their manufacture. Responsible for keeping assigned work area clean and tidy at all times and reporting any potential contamination and suspicious activity to a Supervisor immediately.

Education, Technical Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Proficiency Level

 

Required

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Math Ability - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  •        Reasoning Ability - Ability to define and solve problems.
  • At least 6 months as an operator
  • Ability to write clearly and legibly and possess basic effective verbal and written skills in English.
  • Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have the ability to work with computers, operating screens, and company data entry software.

 

Physical Requirements

  • This position requires the employee to stand for extended periods of time, have manual dexterity/use of hands and fingers, have the ability to reach with arms and hands, and have the ability to work in an enclosed environment.  With the aid of co-workers, the employee is expected to frequently push/pull proofing racks from 10 to 30 pounds approximately 15 to 100 feet.  The employee is expected to carry, twist, bend, and stoop in conjunction with frequent lifting between 10 and 100 pounds of supplies and trash with the aid of co-workers.  This position requires the employee to lift and dump up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires employee to have adequate communicating and observational skills, including seeing, speaking and hearing, due to the operation of various types of moving equipment used in the bakery.  These requirements are for the safety of the employee and co-workers.  These requirements are also necessary for collecting, distributing and communicating information with co-workers.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and color vision

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly exposed to extreme hot (non-weather) conditions and to changes in temperature, and occasionally exposed to hot or humid conditions (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather).  The employee must be able to tolerate a work environment that contains flour dust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can get loud.
