Position Purpose

To oversee all HR functions as they pertain to the Winnipeg Bakery


Key Accountabilities

  • Provide leadership, direction, and counsel to management and employees to ensure the fair and equitable application of all Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the  development, implementation, maintenance and communication of Human Resource policies, procedures and practices



  • Establish company policies and procedures ensuring we are both fair to everyone and that we meet or exceed any government or legislated requirements and comply with corporate programs
  • Responsible for the implementation, administration and interpretation of the Collective Agreement ensuring contractual and legislative compliance
  • Foster positive employee relations and effectively manage employee relations concerns or issues
  • Leads, facilitates and provides support, research and analysis in dispute resolution procedures, including the grievance, mediation and arbitration processes
  • Participate in various Human Resources initiatives and projects in support of Company goals
  • Oversee disability management and the Return to Work Program
  • Ensure people are treated fairly and with respect and that we keep a happy and healthy work environment where everyone feels their efforts are appreciated
  • Oversee Recruitment and Selection process to ensure our Company is recruiting and selecting the best possible talent to ensure high food safety/quality work standards
  • Conducting audits of payroll, benefits, and other HR programs, and recommending corrective actions
  • Provide department managers with the necessary support for the training and development of their team
  • Manage personnel files and performance management systems so that people know what is needed for them to continually improve in their jobs and so that we have a fair and pro-active vehicle for reviewing our employee base
  • Assist in managing the WCB Claims Management Process alongside Health & Safety team
  • Develop, deliver and support employee engagement initiatives and events. Assist the Managers in the judicial use of temporary Labour in the facility
  • Adhere to GMPs and Health and Safety rules as outlined in employee handbook
    • Keep work area clean and clear of hazards
    • Report any unsafe conditions, incidents or injuries to supervisor immediately
    • Use all prescribed personl protective equipment
  • Ensure GMP’s and safe food handling practices are being followed
    • Monitor and enforce GMP compliance by all operators
    • Ensure all work areas are clean and organized and free of spills, water, wood, and debris
    • Complete incident reports for all FM/GMP incidents
    • Follow up with Health, Safety & Security Manager any reports of unusual people or behaviours
  • Perform all other duties assigned


Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven record in successful planning, decision-making and problem solving
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards and all other applicable legislative regulations
  • High level of energy and dedication
  • Hands on attitude
  • Ability to multitask and handle numerous assignments at the same time
  • Ability to supervise / lead others in positive employee relations climate
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with experience in report writing


Education, Technical Qualifications, Experience and Competencies Proficiency Level



  • University degree or college diploma in Human Resources Management or equivalent
  • 4-7 years’ experience progressive HR experience, preferably in the food manufacturing environment.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a unionized environment.
  • Experience with Collective Agreements and negotiating CBA, grievances, and arbitrations.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills



  • Payroll experience an asset, preferably Ceridian Dayforce
